The AT-profile tooth profile is a standardized, trapezoidal tooth shape for timing belt drives in accordance with DIN 7721. It was designed as an evolution of the older T-profile and is characterized by wider, stronger teeth relative to the tooth gap, which allows for the transmission of higher torques and speeds.
Characteristics
- Trapezoidal tooth geometry with metric pitch, commonly available in sizes AT5, AT10, and AT20 (pitch in mm)
- Wider tooth flanks, compared to the T-profile, increase load-carrying capacity and transmission reliability
- Preferred profile for new designs subject to high torque loads
- To be distinguished from the round-toothed HTD profile, which also offers smooth operation and greater resistance to tooth skipping
Applications in Thread Technology
In ball screws with a toothed nut, the nut’s external teeth can be designed as AT-profile teeth. This allows the nut to be driven directly by a matching AT-profile timing belt, without the need for additional coupling or gear elements. This ensures slip-free, positive-lock torque transmission combined with a compact design, for example in multi-axis systems with limited installation space.
